About quarrelsome politics (Kosova Sot)
When Brussels officials come to inspect the progress in Kosovo, they face two completely different points of view, writes the paper in today’s editorial. The first is the government’s version of how things stand which represents an exaggerated truth and depicts the leadership as fighting corruption and standing up for civil rights. The second version of the state of affairs is provided by the opposition and this is always a bleak picture of how nothing is as it should be in Kosovo and how its leaders deserve to “rot in prison” for all the wrongdoings they are responsible for. According to the paper, the European integration process along with other complex processes that would have to be carried out by Kosovo’s institutions are in fact obstructed by the same people who work in these institutions. Those who speak about European standards are the ones who most flagrantly violate them, says the paper adding that the opposition is also not finding a common language and encourage dialogue on disputed issues. “For as long as Kosovo politics is unable to reach consensus on vital issues for the country, our journey to the EU will be very difficult, therefore the public pressure of progressive forces of the society should be directed at achieving national political reconciliation first, and then head to other topics”, the paper concludes.
