Serbian MIA denies that Frontex arrives at the border, Han is not aware (N1)
The head of the MIA's Department for International Cooperation Zoran Lazarov denied media reports that Serbia and the EU signed an agreement on the deployment of members of the European Border Guard and Coast Guard (Frontex) on the borders of Serbia. European Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn is not aware also about the alleged spread of Frontex to the borders of the Western Balkans, reports reginal broadcaster N1.
Stating that there is a procedure whereby this type of agreement is first to be initialled and then signed, Lazarov reminded that if such an agreement was signed, he would have to be ratified in the Serbian Parliament, without which it could not come into force.
"It is necessary to remind that if the representatives of Frontex were placed on our borders, their role would be to protect the state borders of the migrants, exclusively in cooperation with the Serbian police," Lazarov said, and the MIA transferred.
Lazarov reminded that Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic "has repeatedly said that Serbia will not have any zone for the accommodation of migrants and that this is a clear position of Serbia".
"I believe that we should not even remind the domestic and world public that Serbia always behaves towards migrants and acts in accordance with all international rules and principles of humanity," Lazarov said.
Even European Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn is not familiar with the alleged spread of Frontex to the borders of the Western Balkans. He says the data of 15,000 soldiers is certainly not accurate, as the Frontex has a total of 10,000 soldiers. There is no special news about soldiers on the border with Serbia, Han told N1.
