Biserko: Is it worth to sacrifice Serbs from Kosovo because of the agreement on the division of territory? (NMagazin, Danas)
Chairperson of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights Sonja Biserko assessed for Belgrade-based daily Danas that the division of Kosovo and the exchange of territory became legitimate option for a part of the international community and warned that such a solution would sacrifice the fate of the Serbs there.
Biserko told Danas that the Serbian Orthodox Church is aware of the dangers of dividing the territory.
"Without going into that for what reason the Serbian Orthodox Church opposed the division and exchange of territories between the two countries, my impression from the conversation with these people living in the central part of Kosovo is that it (SOC) is helping them a lot and is aware of the dangers for them from the division of Kosovo. "
Biserko said that during her recent visit to Kosovo, she heard that the presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci 'wish for the Nobel Peace Prize', with the idea of exchanging territories, while people fear that their fate would be sacrificed.
"Is it truly worthwhile to sacrifice Serbs from Kosovo in order to achieve some kind of agreement by the nationalist key of the division and exchange of territories. International community must be aware that every support to such a solution creates and directly causes human misfortune, the misfortune of ordinary people," said Biserko to Danas.
