EU on “Trump’s letter to Vucic and Thaci” (Tanjug, B92)

The EU sees a letter that the US President Donald Trump has sent to presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci as a sign of support and encouragement to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Tanjug news agency reports.

This was said by EU Spokesperson Maja Kocijancic.

“We see this letter as a sign of support and encouragement by the USA to the dialogue that is held under the EU’s auspices,” Kocijancic said.

The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is lead by presidents Vucic and Thaci with the mediation of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, while US “is an important partner” in this process, Kocijancic added.

Asked if the USA initiative, whose officials supported the change of borders between Kosovo and Serbia, runs contrary to the EU Council stance and as such “is rather detrimental than helpful to the dialogue,” Kocijancic responded that the EU “has clear parameters” when it comes to the possible solution in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

“The work on legally binding agreement on comprehensive normalization of relations is ongoing. That would lead towards a permanent solution for open issues, that must be based on the international law, in line with the EU laws and acceptable to all member states,” Kocijancic underlined,
