Vucic wrote to Trump, requests support in finding solution for Kosovo (RTS)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic wrote a letter to the US President Donald Trump, asking for support in finding a lasting and sustainable solution for Kosovo and Metohija, as well as invited him to visit Serbia, RTS reports. Vucic thanked Trump for the support the US offers to Serbia on its EU path, in particular for the support in preserving the peace and stability in the Western Balkans. “In your kind letter, on December 14, you once again emphasized the readiness of the United States of America to help Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, in order to find a solution to a century-long issue of Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucic said in a letter. It was also added, that more than anyone else Serbia and its people care about the solution, since Kosovo and Methija issue is a heavy burden for the both. “We are committed to the dialogue, and we approach it bravely and realistically, considering the future of all of us in the Western Balkans. We have also fulfilled all our obligations deriving from the Brussels agreement. However, Serbia cannot resolve this issue alone,” Vucic wrote. According to Vucic, regardless of Serbia’s wish and faith, tariffs imposed by Pristina on the goods from Serbia represent a burden and an unpassable obstacle for the continuation of the dialogue. “Tariffs not only hamper the Serbian economy, but also jeopardize the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, whose rights we have to protect and defend. I emphasize it once more, the very moment Pristina revokes this irrational and detrimental measure, we are ready to continue the dialogue in a pursuit for lasting and sustainable solution,” Vucic said in a letter. “By this letter I want to reaffirm a strong commitment that with joint forces we enrich relations between our two countries. I am proud that my country fought on the sides of law and justice in two world wars, and that we were allies. Last year, we have marked one century since the Serbian flag flew over the White House, to the honour of Serbia and the victims it has lost in the WWI.” Vucic recalled the historic alliance, though this bright moment of a joint past. “Once again, I want to extend an invitation to you to visit Serbia as a first US president, after almost 40 years. With my cordial regards, please accept, the Excellency, my best wishes for the further progress of your county and wellbeing of the American citizens, as well as assurances of my highest appreciation,” Vucic said in a letter.
