Novosti: London against abolishment of Pristina tariffs? (Vecernje Novosti, Tanjug)
At a recent meeting of Quint member states, Great Britain has prevented the adoption of a strict conclusion on the abolishment of Pristina tariffs imposed on goods from central Serbia, Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti reported.
Despite many officials from the EU and the USA, with stronger or weaker decisiveness, voiced their opposition against the tariffs over the last three months, London again took a stance contrary to Belgrade’s interests, the daily added.
As Novosti unofficially learnt, USA, France and Italy were supporting formulation that would explicitly tell Pristina authorities what consequences they might expect in the coming days if the tariffs are not revoked.
However, British representative was against it, requesting milder formulation, therefore consensus was not reached.
According to Novosti, Great Britain does not want strong and independent states in the Balkans, considering Serbs begin a tool in the Russian hands, and as long as it sticks to such a course and offers support to the unreasonable Kosovo politics, one should not expect progress in the dialogue.
The daily also recalled that Great Britain in August 2018 prevented regular UN SC session on Kosovo, and sent a protest note to Suriname over its decision to revoke recognition of Kosovo.
On the other side, London expected Belgrade to join its appeal sent to the countries across the world and as a sign of solidarity over murder attempt of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, expel Russian diplomats. Also, London requested Serbia’s support for its candidate when the process of selection of new judges in the International Court of Justice in the Hague was taking place, the daily recalled.
