“How could Serbia react: To warn NATO?” (Sputnik, B92)

Pristina did not make the decision to move into action in the north of Kosovo on its own, Milovan Drecun and Nebojsa Covic opined, B92 writes referring to Sputnik portal report. Chairperson of the Serbian National Assembly Committee for Kosovo, Drecun and former head of the Coordination Centre for Kosovo and Metohija, Covic expect similar incidents would happen again. Provocations might intensify in the period between 5 to 12 July when Pristina plans to organize a celebration related to the ‘liberation’ of Kosovo, Covic opined, while Drecun noted Pristina by such (police) action sent a message to Belgrade it wishes neither dialogue nor reconciliation. Covic also warned that Kosovo Albanians through the notion of the fight against the crime and corruption would continue to harras the Serbian community with an intention to continue the ethnic cleansing, adding Serbia should be prepared to ‘the worst scenario’ in case of some new incident situation. Meanwhile, Drecun said the capacities of Serbia to react to the crisis situation in Kosovo are limited, still the Serbian authorities have a possibility to influence the processes in direct and indirect manner. Direct influence, according to him, is made through Serbian people and that is important to preserve the unity there. While in the other hand, Serbia is conducting strong diplomatic activities towards friendly countries such as Russia, China and others, but also towards countries that have influence over Pristina and have contingents in KFOR. Commenting on yesterday’s police action in the north, Drecun said ‘his stance was to send a warning to NATO, in case they cannot protect Serbian people, not to think of getting in conflict with us,” since according to him “circumstances were no longer the same.”
