Blic: Kosovo scenario ready, if a Paris meeting happens (Serbian media)
Belgrade based daily Blic writes today that framework could be formulated for resolving the Kosovo problem at the meeting of the region's leaders with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in Paris on July 1.
According to the daily, the final proposal should be harmonized by the end of the year.
If such a scenario comes up, Blic writes, a referendum on Kosovo could be held together with regular parliamentary elections in the spring of next year.
This has been confirmed to Blic by more sources from diplomatic circles, with the remark that such a scenario is possible only if the meeting in Paris happens.
Namely, as speculated the last weeks, Macron and Merkel are in conflict over the way the new president of the European Commission will be elected, but also about candidates for European institutions and, despite the fact that they want to leave the impression in public that all is fine, it is clear that there has been a cooling off among the two most powerful European figures.
Blic's interlocutor from diplomatic circle claims that if the Paris meeting happens on 1st July, we could expect that then a framework or platform should be formulated, which should serve as a starting point for the final solution of the problem.
"All interested parties would receive a frame that would then be harmonized, the two parties would have been given the time of several months to negotiate on what the document has, to change the parts of it, insert details and harmonize the final proposal for a solution to the Kosovo problem, and to come out with it before their citizens," says the interlocutor of Blic.
Blic writes that it is noted that apart from the Merkel-Macron conflict, relations between Kosovo's officials Haradinaj and Thaci are tense, which is another addition to the difficulties of having the 1 July meeting.
