Serb member of CEC left session in protest over documents (N1, BETA)

A member of Kosovo Central Election Commission (CEC) Stevan Veselinovic left the CEC session after it decided that all documents of the voters in the early parliamentary elections on October 6 had to be issued by Pristina, BETA news agency reports on Tuesday. Veselinovic said that such a move violated the law and electoral rules which CEC should implement. “The decision violets Election Law’s article 90 and Election Rules article 16 which stipulate that during the vote, all valid IDs can be used except the drivers’ licenses which must be issued in Kosovo,” he added. He recalled the law was respected during all previous elections and described the new decision as “political and illegal,” and “directed against Kosovo Serbs to prevent as many of them as possible to vote and choose their representatives.” “I reiterate that it’s illegal for the CEC to bring decisions during the election process which violate the law, disabling the voting right to the citizens of Serb nationality,” Veselinovic said. “I left the CEC session today, refusing to participate any more in the work of this institution, which should be independent, which is obviously not, that is politicized, and as long as illegal decisions and decisions against the interests of my people are made (he will not take part),” he added.
