Dacic: Soon less than half of the UN members who have recognized Kosovo (RTS)
The situation around Kosovo has changed a lot, we can soon expect that the number of states that have recognized Kosovo will fall below half of the number of UN members, said Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.
Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reports that Dacic said that President Aleksandar Vucic and himself spoke with representatives of 92 countries at the UN General Assembly.
"Our goal is for the number of countries that have recognized Kosovo to fall below half of the UN member states. As we said, it has 193 members, so it should fall to 96 members. And that will be soon," Dacic told reporters following a conference on the development of economic cooperation between the countries of the Western Balkans and Africa in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
He estimated that the Serbian delegation in New York had a successful week in the United Nations, adding that in addition to representatives of 92 countries, they also spoke with representatives of 15 to 20 international and regional organizations.
"And in all these conversations, we can conclude that the situation has changed a lot around Kosovo. If you noticed in the UN General Assembly, only Edi Rama mentioned Kosovo, and earlier it was a frequent case that some countries advocate and urge others to recognize Kosovo," remarked Dacic.
He points out that the Serbian delegation will again go to New York in October for a session of the UN Security Council on Kosovo, which should take place, he says, on October 10 or the end of the month.
Dacic said that the Pristina authorities are trying in every possible way to prevent the victory of the Serbian List in the upcoming elections and that he expects that it will not prevent the Serbs from being united, go to the polls and vote for that list.
