Head of the UN mission in Kosovo Farid Zarif deplored violence during protest on 22 June in southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
At the same time he commended the reaction of police and international security forces. UNMIK's Press Release reads that Zarif called on continued calm in the aftermath of this incident and reiterated that such behavior of some individuals should not be permitted to inflame wider tensions.
"Peaceful expression of views and dialogue remain the only acceptable way to tackle the issues at hand, and local dialogue must not only continue but be intensified in the coming days," stressed Zarif.
Zarif added that ‘inflammatory and provocative statements’ should be avoided by all sides in order to help maintain an atmosphere conducive to the successful resumption and continuation of the Brussels dialogue, reads the UNMIK's Press Release.
