Northern Kosovo prepares protest (Vecernje Novosti)
Serbs from northern Kosovo, bitter due to latest EULEX decisions, announce new political battle. Arrest warrants against legal Serb representatives are aimed at ethnic cleansing of Serbs.
Serbs from northern Kosovo will organize a massive peaceful protest in days to come due to arbitrariness of EULEX. The line was crossed after representatives of this international mission have released arrest warrants against the former and incumbent mayors of Zubin Potok municipality, Slavisa Ristic and Stevan Vulovic, respectively.
The Mayor of Leposavić/Leposaviç Dragan Jablanović yesterday said to Novosti that latest events are forcing them to stage a grandiose protest: “We will stage a protest against the arbitrariness of EULEX, along with other ways of civil disobedience. Serbs are worried and will not reconcile with such things.”
“Decisions of this mission are aimed against Serbs!” clams Jablanović and adds that such behavior of the mission in charge of the rule of law is inappropriate.
The Mayor of Northern Mitrovica Goran Rakić said that EULEX representatives know very well that the only guilt of Vulovic and Ristic is that they aligned with their own nation in certain situations. “Arrest warrants against legal Serb representatives are aimed at ethnic cleansing of Serbian nation, foremost of those in the north of the province. A ‘political amnesty’ was reached through Brussels Agreement, whereas EULEX now acts out of the scope of its mandate,” Rakić said.
Following latest arrest warrants, in northern Kosovo unofficially think of erecting new barricades against EULEX, whereas Jablanović said that political representatives of Serbs are struggling to prevent such development.
