Ashton’s associate to be blamed for the chaos in Kosovo (Vesti online)

EULEX Prosecutor Maria Bamieh, which publicly spoke about corruption and violation of the investigation rules by EULEX judges and prosecutors in Kosovo, claims that Fernando Gentilini, an associate of former EU High Representative, Catherine Ashton, has to bear responsibility for "chaos" in the EU mission in Kosovo, was stated on the Brussels-based portal Euobserver.

Together with Catherine Ashton, Gentilini was chief mediator, on behalf of the EU, in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. British prosecutor Bamieh says that he is responsible "because EULEX is managed by the European External Action Service (EEAS)."

“The EEAS is always trying to avoid responsibility saying: That is not our competency, but the competency of the Council of Ministers of the EU,” - says Maria Bamiah. She noted that "no one accepts the responsibilities and the EEAS shall have transparency and a mechanism for insight into their missions." She asks: "How people in Kosovo can believe EULEX officials if they do not stop to lie?"

“Some judges and policemen (in EULEX) were more open to the temptation than others. This country is corrupted, everything you see on Kosovo is corruption and if you bring (in EULEX) older people from poorer countries, or countries where corruption is wide spread, possibility they will connect with people here is much higher. I'm not saying that all Italians, all Greeks, or Romanians are bad, but the staff (in EULEX), which is from other parts of Europe may be less inclined to it,” said Bamieh.

She added: "Which hope the Special Investigation Team (organ trafficking) may have to guarantee the security of witnesses, if EULEX does not change?"
