Former Serbian Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac had assessed as "unacceptable" formation of Kosovo military and called on the government to make it clear to counterparts in Brussels. He said that it would have repealed the Kumanovo Agreement from 1999 and threatened the Brussels Treaty between Belgrade and Pristina.

"Eventual formation of the army in Kosovo, by the Provisional Institutions, would have unforeseeable consequences for peace and stability in the region. This would, in effect, annul the Kumanovo Agreement, and essentially would bring the Brussels Agreement on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina under a big question mark, that definitely is not in the interests of Serbia," said the former minister for the weekly" Vreme ".

Sutanovac called for the launch of "a series of diplomatic activities" of Serbia that could influence to stop "negative processes, as would be the creation of some army of Kosovo, contrary to the Kumanovo Agreement between NATO and Serbia and the Resolution 1244."

"The formation of a land and air security zone (the Kumanovo Agreement) Army of Serbia has lost the right to engage without the approval of the Commander of KFOR in these zones. Serbia, after 15 years from the signing of the agreement, respects this decision and we must demand that all signatories of the agreement have the same relationship. Otherwise, Serbia must find a way to protect own vital interests," said Sutanovac.

Asked about NATO's role in the formation of the army of Kosovo, he said that NATO or individual members of this alliance, "already once made a mistake by helping in the formation of the KLA behind which have remained crimes against the Albanian, Serbian, as well as other population in Kosovo and Metohija ".
