Stefanovic: The issue of migrants should be solved at EU level (Blic)
Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic told CNN's reporter Christiane Amanpour that the migrants issue is a problem the entire Europe is facing and called for coming up with a coherent plan for the entire continent.
Stefanovic said that almost 115,000 refugees passed through Serbia since the beginning of 2015, stressing that it is difficult for the country economically, especially as it is going through economic reforms. Stefanovic said that Serbia provides food, shelter, and medical treatment for all people who come into the country. He added that it is not easy for the country but we are humane and democratic society.
The key issue is that we need a comprehensive solution, one that deals with the entire EU, rather than just one or several countries, Stefanovic said, adding that he does not believe any wall can stop these people from reaching the Union with their families and seeking a better life there. “Serbia is just a transit country for the migrants, and only a few hundred of them had expressed a desire to remain in Serbia,” he said.
