The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) supports Serbia's EU pathway, but we must not and cannot sacrifice Kosovo, Serbian Patriarch Irinej said after a meeting with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday.

"The position of the Church is very clear and well known - we want Serbia to continue its EU pathway and in this respect it has our full support, but we must not renounce on Serbia's cradle, our people that live there, our holy sites. We must not sacrifice Kosovo for the sake of Europe, because it is invaluable," Patriarch Irinej said for Belgrade-based daily Kurir.  He noted that the meeting was constructive and that the representatives of the government and the SPC have agreed to work together on all issues.
