Research on social protection of rural women in Kosovo (Kontakt Plus Radio)

Center for Communities Development from Mitrovica North yesterday presented preliminary results of a research carried out with regard to quality of social protection in rural areas of Kosovo. The research has been carried out within a project labeled “Importance of Gender – Poverty and Social Inclusion – situation with social protection in rural Kosovo and Metohija”.

Senior researcher Ana Marija Ivkovic said that the problem lays in the lack of information for women, which according to her is the biggest barrier in receiving social services. She added that the research managed to isolate basic problems leading to insufficient social protection in rural areas. The research covered 21 organizations dealing with social services and around 40 women from rural areas of Mitrovica North, Mitrovica South and Pristina from May to July this year.

Ivkovic further explained that this is the second phase of the project, where problems have been identified, whereas the following phase of quantitative research with around 800 women should provide concrete results aimed at raising the quality of social services in rural areas in Kosovo.
