Kostic requests census in Gračanica Municipality (KIM Radio)

Kosovo Minister for Labor and Social Welfare Arban Abrashi said that draft law on census in Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo will soon be forwarded to the Kosovo Assembly.

The Mayor of Gračanica/Graçanicë, Vladeta Kostic, recently sent a letter to the Kosovo government, Eurostat, Association of Kosovo Municipalities and representatives of the international community requesting for this municipality to be included in the planned census for northern municipalities. He explained that current budget of the municipality reflects the census from 2011, which was mainly boycotted by inhabitants of this municipality, thus the funds for the budget provided by the Kosovo government do not reflect the real number of residents of this municipality, what creates many problems for the local self-government.

Census in Kosovo in 2011 has shown that there are 1,8 million inhabitants in Kosovo, out of whom 91 per cent are Kosovo Albanians, 3,4 Kosovo Serbs and the rest are other Kosovo communities.
