Assembly to decide on census in the north (RTK2)

Draft Law on Census in four municipalities in northern Kosovo should be on the agenda of the next parliamentary session, while the census should be organized by the end of 2016. The majority of MPs, including the MPs of the Serbian List, voted to postpone discussion of the law for the next session, when elected representative of the Government should present to the MPs the content of the law. "Since census is very important process, it is essential that someone from the government explain and present it. We agree with MPs who request to include this issue as a regular topic of the next session," said the head of the parliamentary group of the Serbian List, Slavko Simić.

Census in Kosovo was conducted in 2011, but not in the north. Although municipalities with Serbian majority south of the Ibar/Ibër River requested repetition of the census, because many people did not want to participate in it, the Government of Kosovo has adopted holding of the census just in the north.

Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration Bajram Gecaj previously stated that the census should be organized between 1 and 15 October, subject to the timely adopted legislative changes.
