The Church won’t be touched during excavations (KIM Radio)
The search for postmortem human remains will be conducted next week in the yard of the Church of Christ the Savior in Pristina, however the Church won’t be touched, said the head of the Kosovo Commission for Missing Persons, Prenk Gjetaj. He dismissed reports of some Belgrade-based media that intention of Pristina is to undermine the foundations of the Church.
In the RTV Kim TV show „Dogovor!?“, Gjetaj explained that excavations will be conducted based on the testimony of a witness, and added that this topic has prompted unnecessary concerns following hasty suspicions of the director of the Department of Forensic Medicine Arsim Gerxhaliu, about alleged existence of a graveyard in the Church’s yard.
Gjetaj went on to say that a witness appears to be a woman who never approached this Commission to report anything and who used social network to talk about this issue. He added that excavation has to be conducted in order to dismiss any suspicion, and that it will take place in the yard while the Church won’t be jeopardized.
The chairperson of the Serbian Commission for Missing Persons, Veljko Odalović, argues that the story about the existence of a graveyard is politicized, and added that excavations should be conducted as soon as possible. He believes that result would contribute to increased level of trust between the city authorities and Albanian community toward the Serbian Orthodox Church.
