The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, pointed out, in an interview with Beta news agency, the necessity to reduce the current tensions in the Western Balkan, in order to avoid incidents and clashes, and pointed out that NATO "realizes its part in the construction of the security with regional partners”.
"NATO appreciates the partnership with Serbia and I am proud of my strong ties of friendship with your country," said Stoltenberg, and stressed that the Atlantic Alliance would like to have stronger cooperation with Serbia respecting its neutrality, such is NATO cooperation with Austria, Sweden and Switzerland.
NATO, he said, strongly supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and calls on all parties to take part in the dialogue in a constructive way.
When asked what his message to concerned Serbs was during his recent visit in Kosovo, Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance replied that "NATO is behind the stability and security in the Balkans."
"Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is the way forward to a durable solution for the outstanding issues, with mutual respect and understanding of all communities," said Stoltenberg.
And, the Secretary General of NATO said, "recent meetings at high level in Belgrade-Pristina dialogue shows that Serbia is committed to build relationships of cooperation with Pristina and enhancing security and stability in the whole area."
The head of NATO said that he pass the message to the authorities in Pristina that NATO supports the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces within the existing mandate, and believes that the future of the entire Western Balkan is into the EU and NATO.
