Thaçi offers his resignation to avoid trial (Sputnik, KIM radio)
Sputnik says that President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi offered the ''international community'' his resignation to avoid the trial before the Court for the KLA crimes, and cites assessment of political analyst from Pristina, Behlul Beqaj who said that this could be one of the three possible options.
Sputnik recalls that Thaçi mentioned his resignation at the moment when he insisted on the formation of the army of Kosovo, though Washington and NATO opposed.
Beqaj believes this is a better option for Thaçi, to leave the position this way, than to walk the path of the International Court. He assesses this as a good maneuvering move in order for him to be remembered as the principled president, the man who kept his word i.e. he would resign if the KSF transformation ends in a way contrary to what he planned.
Beqaj thinks that this could be a gimmick between international community and him, to leave the position and stay remembered as a man who wanted to complete national policy but will be let off the hook in the process before the International Tribunal for criminal activities during and after the war.
Asked whether Thaci's resignation could reflect negatively on the political situation in Kosovo, Beqaj responded that "it would be a negative for him to stay, and to ignore international public", especially those who have contributed, in terms of constitution of state, and not in terms of escalation of organized crime.
