KoSSev Editor in chief: Campaign in Kosovo is neither free nor regular (N1)
N1 reported from North Mitrovica on the election campaign and the general atmosphere. N1 reported that Chief Editor of KoSSev portal Tatjana Lazarević said that “election campaign in Serbian communities can hardly be called free”.
“This campaign cannot be called free and regular, in which the public institutions and media have equal access to candidates while the candidates present the program. From the other side, we did not have the electorate which expressed the need to collectively and individually participate in the elections. Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija did not have any of this” she says.
“The consequence of the unequal access of candidates to the media and voters is that practically the only message that was heard was that only Serbian list can prevent the formation of the Army of Kosovo, while the other four lists looked more like lists for the local elections” she said.
Tatjana Lazarević points out that the campaign was marked by brutality and physical violence, which means that there is a real danger that tomorrow, on Election Day incidents occur. In this context, she recalled that in 2013, during the campaign, one of the candidates was murdered.
“If the morning shows how the day will be, then Serbs don’t have good days ahead of them” says the Chief Editor of KoSSev. “However, what gives me hope is that the division that exists in the political life of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija is not felt among citizens” she concluded.
