Serwer: USA expects Kosovo recognition, Germany full normalization and Russia destabilization (Blic)

Washington supports independent and sovereign Kosovo within existing borders, and EU mediation in resolving the issues. However, in order to strengthen Kosovo sovereignty, USA wants Kosovo to join the UN, and when conditions are met an EU as well.

This is according to American expert for the Balkans, Daniel Serwer. He further told Blic daily Washington wants full normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations, which implies mutual recognitions and the exchange of ambassadors. Meanwhile, Berlin would support Washington and an EU mediation, however, it will not accept Serbia as an EU member, without a complete normalization of relations with Pristina. Serwer also claims that while pledging for Turkish trade and economic interests in the Balkans, Erdogan recently started to emphasize Islamic ties in particular with Sarajevo and to a certain extent in Kosovo. Ankara wishes that the EU mediation is successful and would support Kosovo in UN. According to Serwer, Moscow tries to prevent the Balkans to join NATO and EU, using its strong ties with Serbia, Republic of Srpska, and some people in Macedonia and Montenegro. He added Moscow would like to see problems not only in Kosovo, but in Bosnia as well, as it would destabilize the region and efficiently block the accession of the Balkans states to the NATO and the EU. Moscow would continue to block Kosovo to join the UN, until Belgrade tells otherwise, maybe even after that. Serwer went on saying that Moscow would be more than ready to abandon Serbia’s interests and exchange recognition of Kosovo for recognitions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Crimea and division of Moldova by the West, Blic daily reported.
