Milic: West to think about division of Kosovo (Tanjug, Radio kontakt plus)

The western international community should think about division of Kosovo as least bad solution, treating it as a unique case, Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) Director, Jelena Milic said, Serbian media reported. Milic told Tanjug news agency if the West is that much afraid of Russian influence, then unresolved Belgrade-Pristina issue “is one of the great channels of influence Russia could use.” She also added, she expected that once Serbia signed Brussels agreement, EU and NATO members state that have not recognized Kosovo, would do so, however it did not happen. “I can understand it is very hard to accept legally binding agreement when there are EU and NATO member states that have not recognized Kosovo,” Milic said. She recalled that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Serbia committed mistakes during the nineties and “that is why we have lost Kosovo.” However, Milic said, the fact is that Serbia has handed over most of its war criminals from that time, which is not that simple, then Serbia fulfilled some obligations deriving from the Brussels agreement, and on the other side there is no Association/Community of Serb-Majority Municipalities and both Kosovo and the international community are prolonging establishment of the Special Court for KLA crimes. She argued when everything is taken into consideration, including threats the region faces from the outside, West should think about the division of Kosovo as the least bad solution, treating it as unique case.

Milic also said it is rather unusual for such proposal to come from the Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies, however, it is their analysis, “taking into consideration stalemate we have reached,” Serbian media reported.
