Vecernje Novosti: Serbian Army has response to Pristina’s plan
Possible intrusion of the Kosovo Security Forces to crossing points Jarinje and Brnjak would not go without reaction from Belgrade, Vecernje Novosti wrote yesterday.
As daily earlier reported, Pristina’s plan to take over control of the administrative crossing points in the north of Kosovo, supported by NATO allies, could “inflame” entire region and Belgrade through unofficial channels has warned important European stakeholders of danger and domino effects of such scenario.
According to Vecernje Novosti sources, Serbia sent clear signals that taking over Jarinje and Brnjak could cause an escalation of the violence in the province, and beyond, and that Serbian security forces are ready to react in order to protect peace and stability of the country.
Defence Minister, Aleksandar Vulin confirmed yesterday to Vecernje Novosti, that the Serbian Army carefully monitors all security related events in our area and is ready for any option.
“In the area of Kosovo and Metohija, in line with UN SC Resolution 1244, KFOR is responsible for security of all living in our southern province. We expect from KFOR to fulfil its mission,” Vulin said.
Serbian Assembly Committee for Kosovo and Metohija Chairman, Milovan Drecun said different information on different Pristina’s plan surfaced, but he believes Albanian leadership would not take a risk and initiate a senseless action that could provoke serious clashes and violence.
“The main role of KFOR and its biggest responsibility is to prevent destabilization of the situation. Also, Serbia is permanently warning about the risk for the security of the Serb people and the situation in Kosovo, if Pristina continues to insist on establishing so-called Kosovo army,” Drecun said.
