Blic: Germany proposes special representative for dialogue (Blic, N1)
Germany has a proposal that a special representative of the EU leads the Belgrade-Pristina negotiations in Brussels instead of the head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini, Belgrade based daily Blic writes today.
In recent months, it has been reported about a new format of the dialogue, in which America would be included as a consultant, which would correspond to Pristina, but also Russia, which is the idea of Belgrade.
Germany has a desire to take over the role of the Special Representative in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, that would be named by the Head of EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The reason for this is that Mogherini is engaged in several jobs at the same time and there is no time to devote full attention to the dialogue and to solve the problems that were encountered during the negotiations. Hence the idea of a special representative, says the source of the daily.
The acceleration of the dialogue is an explanation for the proposal.
"The idea is that the head of EU diplomacy will determine who will be that special representative, but the question is whether it will come to it in the upcoming period," says the interlocutor of the daily Blic.
Head of Serbian diplomacy Ivica Dacic also confirms these quotes, who says that the question is what kind of benefit Serbia would have from it.
"I really doubt that Serbia would benefit from it, the mood of the Western countries towards Belgrade is known, and status in the dialogue. The question is who that special advisor would be what his attitude towards Serbia would be. It is clear the aim of this proposal is to resolve the issue of Kosovo as soon as possible, that is, the pressure to increase, of course, more on Belgrade than Pristina," says Dacic.
