London to disallow discussion on Kosovo in UN (Vecernje Novosti, B92)
Great Britain takes over the presidency of the Security Council tomorrow and intends to block UN to hold a regular session on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija this month, Belgrade based-daily Vecernje Novosti writes today.
If this happens, it would be the first time that discussion on Kosovo is not hold on a quarterly basis, the daily added.
According to Vecernje Novosti, discussion on the Security Council work program is underway and London did not propose Kosovo report to be included in the agenda, since they consider the situation in Kosovo is good and there is no need to discuss about it.
Russia and China are fiercely opposing it, but the issue of work program is rather technical and not a political one and can be decided by a simple majority. The outcome of this “diplomatic battle” should be known by the end of the week. Despite British attempt to exclude discussion on Kosovo, the UN SG Antonio Guterres is preparing his regular quarterly report on Kosovo, the daily added.
Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic, commenting on the issue said it was expected and Brits are obviously not interested to hear Serbian stance. Serbia already sent a warning that such an act would be treated as Anti-Serbian, the daily reminded.
