Von der Leyen in Pristina on Wednesday, will meet Osmani and Kurti (EO)
The news website reports that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Kosovo on Wednesday as part of her tour in the Western Balkans. She is scheduled to meet Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Osmani: NATO award is recognition for all women of Kosovo (media)
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced that she met with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Marcos Perestrello. In a Facebook post, Osmani thanked Perestrello for nominating her and for the Assembly’s decision to honor her with the Women, Peace, and Security Award, emphasizing that the award represents recognition for all women of Kosovo.
During the meeting, they also discussed Kosovo’s increasing role in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, following the decision to advance Kosovo’s status to that of an associate member, a step Osmani described as highly significant in Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration path.
Osmani stressed that Kosovo will fully utilize this opportunity, viewing NATO membership as a top foreign policy priority and a matter of special importance for national security.
Kurti: I have not yet held talks on forming new government (media)
Kosovo’s caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that he has not yet held any discussions with parties or MPs regarding the formation of a new government, but announced that in the coming days his party will begin working on a concrete plan for this process. “Very busy these days, we are analyzing results from all centers. We need to assess how each municipal campaign contributed to the results we achieved so that we can begin preparing for the runoff campaign as soon as possible. That’s why I haven’t managed to hold those communications yet, but we are making a plan for it. We still have more than 10 days,” Kurti said.
Kusari-Lila on formation of Kurti 3 government (Indeksonline)
Alternative leader and MP from the Vetevendosje Movement, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, in an interview with the news website, talked about the formation of the new government, saying that Vetevendosje will not cooperate with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Serbian List. “This week we will start talks for the formation of the government. There have been initial talks, but nothing specific. As far as cooperation with other political parties is concerned, our position is that we will not cooperate with two parties, namely with the PDK and the Serbian List. We have to see if there is readiness to cooperate with the other parties. In terms of invitations towards the LDK and other parties, Kurti himself as the mandate-holder to form a new government and the Vetevendosje Movement need to decide,” she said.
Kusari-Lila also argued that new parliamentary elections are the best solution. “I can speak on behalf of Alternativa, and I say that the best solution is new elections because a long time has passed since the elections and there have been changes that require the reconfirmation of the will of the people. We are always ready for elections,” she said.
NISMA ready for talks with Vetevendosje on new government (media)
NISMA representatives said today that they will positively respond to any invitation from the Vetevendosje Movement for talks on the formation of the new government. With 12 days remaining for VV to form the new government, NISMA MP Xhevahire Izmaku said in an interview with Kosovapress that her party “has always had a high level of political responsibility and there is no reason why we should not be at the table of talks with VV”. She said that if the forming of the new government depends on the three votes NISMA has in the Assembly, “then there will be no conditions in terms of creating the new institutions”. She however also said that the “position of the Assembly Speaker needs to be clarified” because in her opinion the legislature must not function with a person that has created divisions.
Rasic: I prefer a coalition between VV and LDK to form the government (media)
Deputy speaker of the Kosovo Assembly from the Serb community, Nenad Rasic, in an interview with TeVe1 today, said that the Serbian List is always against him. “As usual, in whatever form I am involved in a position or election situation, the Serbian List is always against me and they have a brutal organization therefore this is no surprise,” he said.
Asked about the formation of the new government, Rasic said he would prefer a government with a stable majority. “I would be happy if we have a government with a stable majority because of the challenges we are facing, and because of international relations. I would be happy if the Vetevendosje Movement reached a coalition with the Democratic League of Kosovo [LDK]. This would mean a larger number of MPs. If it is up to me, I would encourage Kurti to form such a coalition, because it was confirmed even earlier that they have shown institutional seriousness and I appreciate this,” he argued.
Rasic also claimed that on the eve of Sunday’s municipal election, the Serbian List used all methods to secure votes, including payments. He said that in the municipality of Gracanica on Saturday “contracts were signed for provisional work in healthcare. On Saturday during the day and in the evening, they offered contracts of 20,000 Dinars. This is a fraud. In Gracanica there were at least 3,000 new voters, and a collective organization of voters from Serbia. There was a harsh methodology by Serbian-run institutions”.
Musliu says there is “significant decline of support for the Serbian List” (media)
Several news websites quote Agim Musliu, founder of the Pristina-based Octopus Institute for Hybrid Warfare Studies, as saying that the Serbian List’s legitimacy in Kosovo is declining. In a Facebook post, Musliu shared a table by Radio Free Europe showing the results of the Serbian List in Serb-majority municipalities in 2021 and 2025. “There is a significant decline of support for the Serbian List in the last local elections, and this is best shown by the data of the table below. As an instrument of Belgrade to instrumentalize the Serb minority in Kosovo, the Serbian List has done everything to make life difficult for the community it claims to represent. From forcing local Serbs to obey Belgrade’s orders to withdraw from Kosovo’s institutions and including intimidating and blackmailing them, the Serbian List has lost the legitimacy to represent the Serb community in Kosovo,” Musliu argued.
Kosovo joins ECMI, “historic milestone in European integration process” (media)
Several news websites reported on Monday that Kosovo has joined the Enlargement Candidate Members Initiative (ECMI) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), marking a historic milestone in Kosovo’s European integration process. Telegrafi reported that the initiative, which was formalized in 2023, had initially excluded Kosovo because of its lack of EU candidate status, but thanks to the continuous efforts of the Kosovo Foundation for Civil Society (KCSF) — through the Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) and with the support of EESC President Mr. Oliver Ropke, Kosovo is now part of the important European platform.
KCSF led a regional advocacy campaign supported by 104 civil society organisations from the region calling for Kosovo to become a member of the ECMI. KCSF said that Kosovo’s membership is a major achievement for Kosovo and civil society in the region and proof that solidarity and cross-border cooperation can bring tangible change and results. “Kosovo’s inclusion in ECMI is the result of a joint, multi-year effort to ensure that the voice of civil society is heard in European integration processes. This represents a victory for Kosovo and for equality across the region,” KCSF said in a statement.
Maqedonci in U.S. discusses new procurements for KSF (AP)
The caretaker Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, is on an official visit to the United States of America, where he met with Michael F. Miller, Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency within the U.S. Department of Defense, to discuss cooperation in the field of defense.
“We discussed the ongoing cooperation in the field of defense, with special emphasis on the procurement of equipment and weapons systems, which, in the case of the Kosovo Security Force, has mainly been carried out through the FMS program (Foreign Military Sales), a state-to state purchasing mechanism with the United States. This approach has enabled lower costs and higher quality of the procured products,” Maqedonci wrote on the social network Facebook.
Joseph: Kosovo and Serbia in NATO, Trump can score a historic victory (media)
Several news websites cover an editorial by Edward P. Joseph originally published on The SAIS Review of International Affairs titled “Balkans Breakthrough for Ukraine: Bring Serbia into NATO and the Kosovo Model into the Donbas”.
Joseph writes:
With his stunning reversals on Ukraine, President Trump seems ready to give up his bid to halt Russia’s war on its smaller, beleaguered neighbor. He shouldn’t. Even with stepped-up US support for Kyiv, including expanded intelligence, authority, and ability to strike deeper into Russia, the grinding war and “savage strikes” from Moscow will continue. Trump can move the parties towards his original, correct goal of a ceasefire by turning to the Balkans – a nearby theatre of competition in which the US and its allies hold strategic leverage. With his trademark audacity, the US President can exploit Putin’s obsessions with Serbia and Kosovo, defining a path for a territorial settlement with Ukraine while summoning additional pressure on the Kremlin to accept it.
Instead of the amorphous, ineffective call for war-ending “land swaps”, the White House can propose that Kyiv and Moscow accept an interim arrangement on the Donbas and other contested territory modeled on UN Security Council resolution 12449 – the Russian-backed terms for Kosovo following the NATO intervention a quarter century ago. Crucially for Ukraine, this resolution sidestepped the question of Kosovo’s sovereignty – envisioning a final settlement based ultimately on “the will of the people.” Establishing a purely “provisional … transitional” UN administration, resolution 1244 opened a trajectory for Kosovo to eventually secede from Serbia, without declaring or denying Pristina’s independence from Belgrade. Zelensky is far more likely to accept such an arrangement, which allows the Ukrainian President to tell his citizens that Donbas is still part of Ukraine and that the people of Donetsk and Luhansk (and agreed neighboring oblasts) will ultimately decide which country has dominion over them.
Benefitting Kyiv, demographics in the Donbas and other contested territories are far more mixed than in lopsided Kosovo, where any referendum on independence was a foregone conclusion. Aided by the US, Ukraine and Russia can negotiate modalities for displaced persons and refugees to vote in the final settlement referenda. As required under the Ukrainian Constitution, final approval would rest on a referendum among all Ukrainian voters. As in Kosovo, overall administration of the Donbas would pass to the United Nations, or possibly the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Kyiv would see a halt to the intensive Russification of annexed Donbas, including the seizure of property, imposition of Russian passports, and military indoctrination of children. As in the Balkans, the UN or OSCE would set up property commissions, enabling displaced persons to assert their claims free from Russian barriers, fostering refugee return.

Von der Leyen to meet Vucic (media)
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will host European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen who is paying an official visit to Serbia on October 14 and 15, media reported citing announcement from Vucic’s press cabinet.
The meeting of Vucic and Von der Leyen is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 15, starting at 8.45 with a ceremonial welcome in front of the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade. The tête-à-tête meeting will start at 9.00, while the media address is scheduled at 09.40, the announcement added.
Petkovic meets Bunford and Magyar, briefs them of challenges Serbs faced in Kosovo elections (Kosovo Online, media)
Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director, Petar Petkovic met today with Hungarian Prime Minister Adviser and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Zsolt Bunford and Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia, Jozsef Zoltan Magyar, Kosovo Online portal reported.
During the meeting Petkovic informed them of details of recently concluded local elections in Kosovo, but also of Belgrade’s position within the dialogue with Pristina. As Petkovic said Serbs despite obstructions placed by Pristina causing the crisis during the entire election process, turned out to vote in large numbers and extended strong support to Serbian List, thus regaining authority in four northern municipalities and strengthening positions in municipalities south of the Ibar River.
Petkovic in particular expressed gratitude to his Hungarian interlocutors for the engagement of Hungarian KFOR members, but also for the understanding Hungarian Government demonstrates in the field of numerous issues of national importance and significance to Serbia, adding close and friendly relations between President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Viktor Orban have certainly contributed to that.
Rada Trajkovic: “Kurti works on destabilization of Serbs in Kosovo” (KoSSev)
“Albin Kurti works on destabilization of Serbs in Kosovo, and some say, North Macedonia as well”, Serb politician and president of the European Serb Movement from Kosovo Rada Trajkovic told JUG press agency, KoSSev portal reported.
She also opined that “elections in Kosovo demand a serious analysis”.
“Serbian List expectedly won in the Serbian areas but with a smaller percentage and this happened because of two reasons – significant departure of Serbs since leaving institutions (in November 2022) and increased Albanization of municipalities with Serb majority”, Trajkovic said.
She also warned the future of Serbian municipalities in the north “will be full of challenges between local Serb authorities and central-level authorities, in particular if Kosovo Government is led by repressive (Albin) Kurti”.
“Kurti works on destabilization of Serbs in Kosovo, and some in well informed cycles say, on North Macedonia as well, where a VLEN Albanian coalition, new coalition supported by Iran, Turkey and Albin Kurti is an attempt to suppress Albanian parties which stabilized North Macedonia with an Ohrid Agreement”, she further warned.
Mijacic: Elections results provide credibility to exert pressure to return Serbs in institutions in Kosovo (Radio KIM)
Coordinator of the National Convention Working Group for the EU Chapter 35 Dragisa Mijacic said results of the local elections in the Serbian areas in Kosovo provide credibility to exert pressure on Pristina authorities to enable return of Serbs to Kosovo police and judiciary, as well as to institutions they have left three years ago, Radio KIM reported.
“This certainly will not be easy, a lot will depend on who will form the new Kosovo Government, but one must not give up on this goal”, Mijacic told Nova media outlet.
As he said, elections demonstrated that the Serbian List is the most significant political subject among the Serbs in Kosovo, who gave them a mandate to work on improving the quality of their lives in the Serbian areas in the next four years.
“The function comes with responsibility and duty to work on the return of Serbs to institutions. Mayors in the north will face many challenges in resolving the detrimental consequences that were created by leaving institutions and actions of previous (Albanian) mayors. Before anything, it is important to find a way to return employees, whose work the functioning of local administration depends on, to the municipalities”, Mijacic said.
Nova recalled that ahead of local elections on October 12, Mijacic said in these elections Serbs are not returning to institutions but “representatives who asked them to leave”, respectively that the very same political leaders who asked Serbs to leave the institutions, are now seeking support of people to return to them.
Lazarevic: Vucic in election campaign, he links topic of Kosovo with fight against protests (N1)
Tatjana Lazarevic, the KoSSev's editor in chief, said it is important to note that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "very cleverly connects the fight against protests with the issue of Kosovo, students and people who do not accept him", for two reasons.
"Students in the past months 'took' from the president the monopoly over patriotic symbols, such as the flag, the anthem, the theme of Kosovo, and restored a dignified context. Vucic is also in one election campaign trying to tear the theme of Kosovo out of the rebellious Serbia and retrieve it. At the same time, he does double damage, he connects the theme of Kosovo with the 'anti-blockaders' and he additionally disgusts the theme of Kosovo and the Serbs from Kosovo to the other part of Serbia," Lazarevic said in the N1 ''Direktno" TV Show.
Lazarevic said among Kosovo Serbs there is a "significant number of people who understand very well what is happening and that Serbia is in rebellion".
Commenting on the victory of the Serbian List in the local elections, Lazarevic said this victory was absolutely expected for her.
"There were no surprises," she added.
Lazarevic said it is too early to say whether this also means reintegration into the Kosovo system, because Kosovo is, as she estimated, in a "serious institutional crisis".
She reminded that even eight months after the elections in Pristina, the government has not yet been formed, and practically neither has the assembly.
"There is an open possibility that some parliamentary elections are expected in Kosovo soon. The situation has now become even more complicated, because in 17 municipalities there is a second round and the results are more or less tight", she said.
Vorgucic: Whoever is in power in Belgrade, majority of Kosovo Serbs will vote for them (KoSSev, N1)
Isak Vorgucic, the director of the KiM radio, speaking about the elections in Kosovo, told N1 that "whoever is in power in Belgrade and has an office in Kosovo - the majority of Kosovo Serbs will vote for them." "There will always be dissatisfied people who will organize themselves politically and try to create a base, but Belgrade absolutely dictates how the political image will be created among Kosovo Serbs", he pointed out.
Speaking of the reasons for it Vorgucic said the biggest employer among Serbs in Kosovo is Belgrade. "Belgrade pays salaries for educational and health workers, there are also their families, social benefits, people look at it that way and we should not expect that to change", Vorgucic said.
"Although the average turnout in Kosovo is 40 percent, in the municipalities where the Serbs make up the majority, the turnout is significantly higher, going over 50, even up to 60 percent. This shows the great interest of the Serbs in these elections, not only north of the Ibar, but also south. This interest has been awakened in the north by the fact that the Serbs intend to return to the institutions they left in 2022 and to correct, if possible, the mistakes made in the previous period while the mayors were Kosovo Albanians, who are a minority there," he said.
According to him, the specific situation is in Gracanica, because all Albanian parties appeared on one list, "although since February they have not been able to agree in the assembly on the most basic things," he assessed.
"The results show that they got quite a number of votes, it seems that they will have several councilors, but the Serbian List won in this municipality as well as in the other eight, while there will be repeated elections in the tenth," he said.
He added that previously the Serbian List boasted convincing victories of over 90 percent, and now it is over 80 percent in one place, and over 50, 60 percent in other places, which depends on each municipality, as he explains.
"It is important to note that after the withdrawal of the Serbian List from the institutions and the total collapse of the standard of living of the Serbs due to the loss of institutions, the post office, the bank, the denial of basic rights and the difficulty of life, dissatisfaction among the Serbs towards the Serbian List grew and a lot of new young candidates appeared who participated in these elections. Some managed to enter the assembly, although they did not get the position of mayor, but they will have councilors in several assemblies which is good."
He added that there are several cases of those who "didn't do very well with the elections and who announce the exit of politics, bitterly, accusing the people who voted for the election results." "It shows, on the one hand, the courage of those opposition parties that participated in the elections, and on the other hand, unfortunately, political immaturity," he said.

From Kosovo to the diaspora: Rama invites Albanians to protest for the KLA “liberators” (KoSSev)
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama last night called on citizens — from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and the diaspora — to join a protest that, according to local media, will be held this Friday in Tirana, reported KoSSev portal in English.
The protest was scheduled at 5pm, as Rama announced. “With pleasure and honour, I make this call. FREEDOM HAS A NAME. From Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, the diaspora, and every corner of Albanian lands — thousands of hearts will unite this Friday, October 17, at 17:00, to unanimously demand JUSTICE FOR THE LIBERATORS,” the Albanian prime minister wrote.
The rally represents a continuation of protests in support of former KLA leaders, organized by the “Kosovo Association of KLA Veterans”.
The Association has chosen Tirana as the next location for a mass gathering, following a previous demonstration held near the headquarters of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague — where the former leaders of the “Kosovo Liberation Army” are being tried. According to reports from that earlier event, thousands of Albanians took part. Protesters have been calling for the release and what they describe as a fair trial for former KLA leaders — Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi — who are facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
EU opening AI development centers in Serbia and North Macedonia (NMagazin, Beta)
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced yesterday the EU will open two "AI factories" (centers for the development of artificial intelligence) in the Western Balkans - one in Serbia and the other in North Macedonia - as part of a broader initiative to include the region in Europe's technological development, reported NMagazin portal.
"This will allow companies in all six WB countries to connect with these factories. This means that your companies will be able to access the European artificial intelligence infrastructure right here in the region. In other words, the computer power of the Union will be at your service. I want the future of artificial intelligence to be created in Europe. And I want the Western Balkans to be an integral part of it," she said yesterday in Tirana.
Von der Leyen recalled that ten years ago, Europe was lagging behind in the global race for computing power, with only one supercomputer among the top ten in the world. Today, thanks to strategic investments, Europe has four such supercomputers at the top of the world list, which are used to develop European solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. The EU is establishing a network of "AI factories" across the continent - innovation centers where companies and startups can develop, train and apply new generation artificial intelligence models.
"Today I can announce that we will open AI factories for the Western Balkans as well. We will start with two 'antennas' - in North Macedonia and Serbia," Von der Leyen said at the first EU-Western Balkans Investment Forum.
In her speech, she announced that 10 important business agreements will be signed in Tirana, and another 24 potential investments will be considered the day after.
"Together, they could bring more than four billion euros of new investments to the region. This will be a huge boost for the entire region. Local companies will expand thanks to European investments. And companies from our Union will expand their operations in the region, creating local jobs and new opportunities in many value chains", said Von der Leyen.
YIHR call to UK regulators to investigate allegations of media suppression involving British firm in Serbia (N1)
The Belgrade-based Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) NGO said on Monday that it filed formal complaints with several UK regulators calling them to investigate allegations that the British BC Partners investment fund was involved in suppressing independent media in Serbia.
A press release said that the complaints are based on leaked conversations that indicate cooperation between BC Partners and the Serbian Government to undermine the independent TV channels N1 and Nova S.

Elections or choice (KoSSev)
By Sasa Jankovic
“Dear Ilir,
You had (yet another) election.
I want to ask you about the outcome – did people really make a choice – elected something new, or they merely participated in elections, and everything continues as before (a deputy/councilor more or less, here or there)?
In search of an answer to another unknown, I recently asked an AI (artificial intelligence) to offer her an authentic, super-smart solution to our greatest challenge: the famous “Kosovo question.”
And that clever, new, unlike-any-of-us virtual friend of mine produced a plan, first in broad strokes and then in detail:
• “Belgrade cannot formally recognize independence, but it should not obstruct the factual…”
• “Pristina should enable a community of Serbian municipalities with real autonomy, respect and ensure the exercise of Serbs’ human and minority rights…”
• “The international community should guarantee security, and a clear, tangible EU perspective…”
• “No big leaps, inch by inch, technically…”, and so on.
I began writing about my surprise that she was so bluntly cheating and plagiarizing – after all, this is the strategy that has been known and, supposedly, implemented for years… but then I thought that maybe the AI isn’t plagiarizing at all; perhaps others before me simply asked her the same question, and then they plagiarized her… My God, I almost ruined my relationship with the (soon to be) most powerful mind in the world by accusing it of plagiarism.”

Can Artificial Intelligence heal Kosovo’s healthcare system? (PI)
Kosovo’s slow progress in digitising its health system has left a gap in data management and patient care. While the world races to integrate artificial intelligence into healthcare, Kosovo still relies extensively on paper records.
In hospitals and clinics across Kosovo, the process is the same as it was decades ago; long queues of patients wait to be registered in the old-fashioned way, by an individual with pen and paper. The blue record books, known locally as “protocols,” are still the main data management system for patient information.
The slow digital transition combined with the ineffective electronicHealth Information System, HIS, make it impossible to generate, compile, analyse, communicate, or utilise data effectively for both the public and private healthcare sectors.
For a country that has seen rapid digital growth in many sectors, healthcare lags far behind. The Health Information System, HIS—a project meant to modernise patient data management—has been under development since 2011, but remains inoperative as of 2025.

Kosovo drone deal part of Turkish ‘political project’ in the Balkans (BIRN)
Kosovo’s purchase of ‘kamikaze’ drones from Turkey is about more than just beefing up security in dangerous times. Turkey is pursuing a ‘deliberate political project’ in the Balkans to secure greater leverage, experts say.
Coinciding with Turkey taking command of NATO-led peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo, Pristina’s purchase of Turkish-made Skydagger ‘kamikaze’ drones has further strengthened the military partnership between the two countries, to the anger of Serbia.
The two developments were not necessarily coordinated, but together they serve to underscore Ankara’s growing prominence as a security partner of Kosovo and a leading arms exporter to the region at a time of higher military expenditure in Europe in light of Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Skydagger acquisition follows Kosovo’s 2023 purchase of Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2 unmanned attack drones from the same manufacturer, Baykar, headed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s son-in-law Selcuk Bayraktar.
News of the Skydagger delivery was met with fury in Serbia, which refuses to recognise its former southern province as a sovereign state 17 years after it declared independence with the backing of the West.
President Aleksandar Vucic accused Turkey of undermining a “fragile peace achieved with so much effort”. But Serbia too is investing heavily in its military, from French Mistral missile systems to Rafale fighter jets worth 2.7 billion euros.
Mentor Vrajolli, director of the Kosovo Centre for Security Studies, KCSS, said that, “unfortunately”, the Skydagger deal must be looked at in the context of an ongoing “arms race” in the Western Balkans.
“Staying behind in this competition could prove costly for Kosovo’s security,” he told BIRN.

Kosovo beats Sweden in UEFA World Cup qualifiers (media)
One of the leading news stories in the media on Monday evening was the Kosovo football team’s victory over Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers. Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani posted photos from the football match under the caption “yet another extraordinary victory! Bravo Dardane!” Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in a Facebook post: “two heads, two victories, one eagle”, referring to victories by Albania and Kosovo football teams in the World Cup qualifiers. In another post this morning, Rama shared a video from the stadium in Sweden with the caption “ … and with the giant flag that greeted Kosovo's historic victory in Sweden's field last night, I wish you a good day”.
Kosovo Agency for Statistics: Inflation in September increased by 4.7 percent on an annual basis (Kosovo Online)
According to the data of the Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK), the index of harmonized total consumption prices was higher by 4.7 percent in September this year compared to the same period last year, i.e. September 2024. At the same time, monthly inflation recorded a drop of -0.2 percent compared to August 2025, reported Kosovo Online.
The annual increase in prices was mainly due to price increases in several categories of goods and services. Among them, organized vacations went up in price by 23.1 percent, plane tickets by 22.5 percent, electricity by 17.4 percent, coffee, tea and cocoa by 14.2 percent and fruit by 13.0 percent.
The prices of meat also increased significantly - 12.1 percent, milk, cheese and eggs by 8.8 percent, hotel services by 8.3 percent, and oils and fats by 6.8 percent. These subcategories had the biggest impact on annual inflation, with a total effect of 4.9 percent on the Harmonized Total Consumer Price Index.
On the other hand, the price of fuel and lubricants for personal transport fell by 3.1 percent, which reduced the overall index by 0.2 percent.
Compared to August 2025, average consumer prices in September fell by 0.2 percent. This monthly decline is explained by the decrease in prices of fuel and lubricants (-3.6 percent), fruit (-2.8 percent), air tickets (-1.6 percent) and electricity (-1.2 percent).
However, some categories saw growth, including solid fuels such as wood and pellets (1.4 percent), milk, cheese and eggs (1.1 percent), car purchases (0.6 percent) and hotel services (0.4 percent).
ASK states that these price fluctuations directly affect the monthly and annual inflation rate, which is measured through the harmonized consumer price index.
