Haxhiu: We have submitted our resignations as ministers on time (media)

Kosovo’s Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, said in an interview with KTV on Tuesday, that she and the other ministers have respected the legal procedures for assuming the MP posts. She read a resignation letter which she said was sent to Prime Minister Albin Kurti and that he forwarded it to the Assembly Speaker. She also said that all the other ministers sent the same letter before the start of the constitutive session of the Assembly on Tuesday.

KDI: Main responsibility for constituting the Assembly falls on VV (media)

The Kosovo Democratic Institute said on Tuesday that the failure to constitute the new Assembly is a result of institutional mismanagement and lack of necessary legal preparations by the biggest party. It argued that the Vetevendosje Movement, as the winner of the elections, is obliged to secure the required number of votes to elect the new Speaker of the Assembly. “Although all MPs are obliged to act in the service of forming the new Assembly, the lack of formal resignations by the members of the government that won seats in the Assembly is the main factor that resulted in the failure of today’s session. In this respect, we assess that this failure cannot be blamed only on the opposition, when the majority claims to have the votes, but it is a result of institutional mismanagement and lack of legal preparations by the majority,” the KDI said in a statement.

Gervalla: Serbian List could vote for Kurti government to discredit us (media)

Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gervalla, said on Tuesday that some MPs from the Serbian List could vote in favor of the new Kurti-led government in order to as she said discredit it. “There is a risk that when they see that we have the votes, they will vote in our favor, and we have been recently told about this risk,” she said in an interview with TeVe1. She argued that the SL vote in favor will be aimed at discrediting the new government in the eyes of the Albanian public. “We have not asked for their votes, and we need to prepare the public that this can happen,” she said.

Gervalla denied any possibility of cooperation with the Serbian List. “We are very clear that there is no cooperation with the Serbian List, there is none today, there was not any yesterday and there will be none tomorrow,” she said.

Maqedonci: Bulgaria will join military alliance with Croatia and Albania (media)

Kosovo’s Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, said on Tuesday that Bulgaria is ready to join the military agreement between Kosovo, Albania and Croatia. He said he expects other countries in the region to join the agreement. “We have confirmation from Bulgaria, which has earlier discussed with the Croatian minister the possibility of joining the trilateral agreement, and I believe that other countries in the region, especially those that share the same values and interest, will join this agreement, declaration, which I repeat is aimed at peace, stability and security,” Maqedonci said in an interview with TRT Balkan.

Grenell calls for funds to be stopped, the Specialist Court responds (Dukagjini)

U.S. Presidential envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, has recently called for funding for the Specialist Chambers in the Hague to be stopped, saying that the court is politicized and that billions were misused.

In a statement to Dukagjini, the Specialist Chambers did not directly comment on Grenell’s remarks but said that they are focused on their work. “The Specialist Chambers of Kosovo and the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor are two institutions, and the Specialist Chambers of Kosovo are fully committed to implementing their mandate and carrying out fair, unbiased and independent court proceedings regardless of political developments or comments,” the court said.

Students' gathering:  "On the issue of Kosovo, all rights have been violated" (KiM radio, KoSSev, Alternativna)

KiM radio reported that yesterday students from North Mitrovica and students from Belgrade gathered in North Mitrovica organising ''16 minutes of silence" in memory of those who died in the fall of the canopy in Novi Sad.

A group of students from the University of Belgrade is staying, at the invitation of their colleagues from North Mitrovica, for several days in Kosovo, where they visited Gracanica, Pec Patriarchate, Visoki Decani, and Prizren.

A member of the plenary session of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade told reporters that for a long time there has been talk about universities under blockade, and the University in North Mitrovica is being forgotten, which, he said, is not under blockade for legitimate reasons, which tells students about the security situation.

"Colleagues waited for us here, yesterday together with them we went to almost all the Serbian shrines in Kosovo and Metohija. The impression is phenomenal. I would like to publicly thank you for the hospitality at this moment. We have only met with words of praise and positive reactions... We are definitely not returning as the same people. I can say that now we have actually gotten to know our country, because most of us visit Kosovo for the first time."

He added that students in Serbia have their own demands and that they are supported by their colleagues from Kosovo.

"We can't talk about the rule of law, we can't talk about institutions not doing their job, without talking about the institutions in Kosovo and Metohija that are under threat and that are fewer and fewer and that are not doing their job," said the student of Belgrade University.

He emphasized that all rights - from international to human rights - have been violated in the case of Kosovo.

Jovan Zafirovic, a student at the Faculty of Philosophy in North Mitrovica, said after the meeting that the visit of colleagues from Belgrade means a lot to local students.

"We certainly received support from them, not only from students from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, but also from other faculties. However, support also means to us on the field, which shows that they are with us, and we are with them. We supported them in accordance with our possibilities and that support was not one-way," said Zafirovic.

He added that nothing ends with yesterday's meeting in North Mitrovica and that he hopes that there will be even more students at the next school year.

Those gathered carried banners on which were written: "Don't be afraid, my kin", "Come, see freely", "From Banat out of spite with my colleagues", "The apple of my eye, your beauty is a nest", "It is not philosophical to remain silent", "The same land nurtured us. The same mother, the air, and centuries. The same sanctuaries are with you and me, but non-humans divide everything".

The flag of the Faculty of Philosophy from Belgrade was also displayed at the meeting.

Serb arrested in N. Mitrovica (RTS, Kosovo online)

M.A. from the village of Zitkovac near Zvecan was arrested in North Mitrovica, for allegedly committing several criminal offenses.

According to the prosecutor's office in Pristina, M.A. is charged with, among other things, "attack on persons with international protection" and "attack on an official".

Defense attorney, lawyer Vasilije Arsic, stated that during his questioning before investigators from the special department in Pristina, his client was shown photographs in which he allegedly appears attacking persons under international protection.

"However, the photographs that the defense had access to and that were presented today prove that Milos is not the same person and that these are four different individuals with different characteristics, from their wardrobe to their physical appearance," stated lawyer Vasilije Arsic.

He added that, after the hearing ended, his client was arrested without grounds and that he was ordered up to 48 hours detention.

Kallas prepares for a visit to Belgrade and Pristina: How will she revive the stalled Dialogue? (Kosovo Online)

After stating that the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina needs new energy, and that the EU is assessing what has gone wrong in the process and what has worked, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, announced yesterday that she will visit both cities in May. Her message—that the EU enlargement process must accelerate for the Western Balkans—could serve as an incentive for both sides to move away from entrenched positions, but also potentially introduce the definition of "penalties," analysts told Kosovo Online. It will be up to Kallas to determine what will bring results.

On Sunday evening, the EU High Representative hosted an informal dinner for foreign ministers of the Western Balkans, and following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting yesterday, she emphasized that the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is of utmost importance and that the dialogue must continue.

The EU Council also released a statement confirming the need for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

Kallas has so far refrained from elaborating on how she envisions the continuation of the dialogue or how the normalization process might be finalized. However, her remark that neither side can progress on its EU path without normalization may not be a mere diplomatic formality.

EU on the blockade of RTS and RTV: We are closely following the political situation in Serbia (RTS)

The European Union is aware of the blockade of students in front of public broadcasters in Serbia and is closely following the current internal political situation in Serbia, said European Commission spokesman Guillaume Mercier, reported RTS.

When asked about the blockade of RTS and RTV in Belgrade and Novi Sad, Mercier added that the EU's position is known.

"We are closely following the current internal political situation in Serbia and the citizens of Serbia who are peacefully demonstrating, calling for the rule of law and strong, accountable and democratic institutions," Mercier said.

He stressed that citizen participation, transparency and accountability play a vital role in the development of democratic societies.

"All stakeholders, including civil society organizations, should together find a way in Serbia to advance reforms, especially in strengthening the rule of law, which are necessary for Serbia's European future," said Mercier.

Students on bicycles reach Strasbourg to a warm welcome (N1, KoSSev)

The column of Serbian students on bicycles crossed into France from Germany and arrived at their final destination Strasbourg on Tuesday night.

The column was led by 9 girl students, some of them in pink vests which they said earlier were made for them by Serbians in Germany. An N1 reporter spoke to several of the riders, all of them overwhelmed by the loud welcome and their emotions.

The European anthem Ode to Joy was performed by a combined choir of adults and children followed by the Serbian national anthem. That was followed by a student who called his fellow riders heroes.

NOVA S/N1 reporter Radovan Seratlic who rode with the students all the way from Novi Sad was raised on the arms of several students and thrown into the air in celebration after having water poured over him. He said the welcome for the bike riders resembled traditional crowd greetings for athletes returning with medals in central Belgrade. Italian pianist Davide Martello played Serbian songs in the square. He was expelled from Serbia after playing at a protest in Nis and he caught up with the bike riders in Germany.

The students riding their bicycles covered more than 1,400 kilometers along the route.

A large crowd stood waiting for them in Strasbourg’s central Place Kleber. Local media said that more than a thousand people, mainly Serbians living in France, were in the square. The crowd included Slovenian MEP Irena Joveva who was the first to speak about the student protests in the European Parliament. According to the tourdestrasbourg.com site, supporters rode bicycles from the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland to reach Strasbourg in a show of support for the 80 students.
