Calls for a mass protest against the proposed electricity price increase (Koha, media)
Protest organizers have called for a mass turnout at today’s protest to oppose KESCO’s proposed 21.3 percent increase in electricity tariffs. An activist Qendresa Hyseni warned that if the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) approves the request, it would significantly raise citizens’ cost of living and negatively affect quality of life. She stressed that the protest is a key tool to prevent the decision and announced further actions if the tariff increase is approved. The Youth of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) joined the protest calls and staged a symbolic protest under the slogan “Energy is not a luxury,” yesterday, highlighting the financial strain on households. They warned that many families already face monthly deficits even without price increases. The protest is organized by the Collective for Feminist Thought and Action in cooperation with “Përpjekja,” while the ERO is expected to decide in March whether electricity tariffs will rise.
Osmani says she would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize (media)
President Vjosa Osmani has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, media quote an interview of Osmani with Newsweek.
When asked whether she would nominate Trump for the prestigious award, Osmani said: “Of course, if I am president (whenever such things take place).”
Only certain individuals are entitled to propose candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, including heads of state. The nomination deadline ends at the end of January, while the winner is announced in October. Osmani’s statement was made from the World Governments Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She described the people of Kosovo as “the most pro-American people on Earth” and expressed gratitude toward every U.S. administration.
Osmani further emphasized that she has had four short but meaningful conversations with Trump and that he has made an “extraordinary contribution” to peace in the Western Balkans.
Hoxhaj from the U.S.: Kosovo’s NATO membership, the main topic of meetings in Washington (Klan Kosova)
Former Kosovo chief diplomat Enver Hoxhaj spoke to Klan Kosova from the US, where he is participating in the traditional “National Prayer Breakfast” event.
Hoxhaj noted that the main focus of his meetings, as well as those of other representatives from Kosovo’s political parties, has been Kosovo’s membership in NATO, considering security and defense to be priority issues for the country.
“Naturally, my main topic, as well as that of colleagues from other political parties, has been Kosovo’s membership in NATO, since security is the main issue, defense is the main issue, and the United States is the country that makes decisions for NATO and stands at the foundations of NATO’s creation and leadership. This has been the main topic of all the meetings we have had so far,” he told Klan Kosova.
“National Prayer Breakfast” in the U.S.: Kosovo represented by a delegation of over 30 people, Kurti Government and VV absent (Nacionale)
As every year, Kosovo is once again present this year with a large delegation at the “National Prayer Breakfast” ceremony in the United States, Nacionale writes. The delegation, which numbers around 40 people, is composed of members of parliament, prosecutors, mayors, and various businesspeople. However, no one from the Kurti Government or Vetëvendosje (VV) was part of this important event. Gazeta Nacionale has learned that no one from the government or VV took part in the ceremony. This was also confirmed by photographs shared by the Embassy of Kosovo in Washington. In these photos, no VV member of parliament can be seen, Nacionale writes.
Early election results still uncertified, CEC awaits completion of complaints (media)
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that it is waiting for the completion of complaints against the final results declared on 31 January 2026, before proceeding with the certification of the results of the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo, held on 28 December 2025.
“Currently, the electoral process is in the phase of complaints against the final results declared by the CEC on 31 January 2026. Parties have the right to appeal ECAP decisions to the Supreme Court, and the deadline for submitting appeals expires today,” CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi told Sinjali yesterday.
Kusari-Lila says they have 65 votes for the Kurti 3 Government, does not speak about the President (media)
Mimoza Kusari-Lila of Alternativa, within Vetëvendosje (VV), said that they have 65 votes to elect the Kurti 3 Government.
She didn’t answer on how the issue of the new president, who must be elected by March 4, will be handled, media report citing Klan Kosova. “We are a parliamentary group with 57 MPs, and naturally with the cooperation of eight MPs from the parliamentary group of non-Serb non-majority communities, including Rashiq. We have not yet met to discuss the procedure of voting within our parliamentary group,” Kusari-Lila said on Klan Kosova.
Deadlock over Serb deputy speaker, LVV undecided on how to proceed (Koha.net)
The Constitutional Court has given MPs 30 days to constitute the Assembly, granting the Serb List an unrestricted right to propose a candidate for deputy speaker as the majority Serb party, even if it repeatedly nominates the same MPs, Koha reports. As long as the Serb List continues to submit proposals, procedural deadlock-breaking tools such as drawing lots cannot be applied, and the ruling does not specify other mechanisms to resolve a potential stalemate.
An earlier Court ruling, however, allows the Assembly to function exceptionally even without one member of the Assembly Presidency if obstruction occurs and quorum is met. Vetëvendosje (VV) has not decided whether to use this option and argues the Court’s decisions are inconsistent, noting different standards applied to VV and the Serb List, Koha writes. Legal expert Anita Shabani-Cacaj counters that the rulings address different issues and stresses that resolving the deadlock ultimately depends on political consensus between LVV and the Serb List.
Rexhepi comments on the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly (media)
Former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Emilia Rexhepi of the New Democratic Party representing the Bosniak community said in an interview for RTV21 that she will respect the recent decision of the Constitutional Court, which grants the Serb List the right to hold the position of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from the Serb community.
However, she noted that they have not yet decided whether they will vote for the Serb List’s candidates for Deputy Speaker, Klankosova reports. “As a member of parliament, I consistently respect all decisions of the Constitutional Court. The Constitution must be respected. At this moment, I do not know what position we will take as a group, but as MPs we must respect the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Court’s decisions,” Rexhepi said.
Petkovic meets UNMIK Head Peter Due (RTV)
The Director of the Office for KiM, Petar Petkovic, met yesterday (February 5) with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UNMIK, Peter Due, whom he informed about numerous examples of violations of the basic human and political rights of Serbs in KiM and the unilateral and unlawful moves of Pristina. Petkovic expressed his belief that UNMIK will continue to consistently and dedicatedly speak through its reports about all violations of the rights of the Serbian people, which are endangered due to Albin Kurti's almost daily anti-Serbian and escalating moves that undermine peace and stability in Kosovo, media report quoting a statement from the Office.
Dacic with UNMIK chief about the difficult situation of Serbs in KiM (RTV)
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UNMIK, Peter Due, who assumed this position in January this year. Informing his interlocutor about the difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo, he emphasized that it is crucial to continue the engagement of the mission in order to consistently implement UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The Minister expressed his expectation that the practice of good police cooperation with UNMIK will continue, as well as regular and substantive communications on all issues of importance for UNMIK's activities in Kosovo. They also discussed the possibilities of improving cooperation in areas of common interest, as well as current developments in the country and the region.
Dačić: Lozhani given 48 hours of detention, to be brought before the Office of the Public Prosecutor for war crimes (Indeksonline)
Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dačić talked about the arrest and detention of Mit’hat Lozhani, who, according to the KLA Veterans’ Organization, was detained solely because a KLA veterans’ membership card was found in his pocket.
Dačić stated that Serbian authorities “at the Batrovci border crossing arrested M.L. (1980), on the basis of reasonable suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population,” media in Kosovo report quoting Dačić.
“The suspect has been ordered to be held in detention for up to 48 hours, after which he will be brought to the Office of the Public Prosecutor for War Crimes with a criminal complaint,” Dačić said. Along with Dačić’s confirmation of Lozhani’s arrest, Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs also published several photographs as “evidence” against Lozhani.
Yesterday afternoon media in Kosovo reported that a former member of the KLA was arrested in Serbia, while according to Indeksonline he was detained while traveling from Germany to Kosovo. The arrest was also confirmed, it is reported, by his lawyer, Arianit Koci.
U.S. KFOR conducts counter-drone training to enhance security in Kosovo (Koha)
U.S. KFOR soldiers have recently conducted specialized training focused on the use of the most advanced technological systems, with the goal of improving technical preparedness in counter-drone operations, Koha writes quoting a KFOR Facebook post.
In addition to the technical aspects, the training is said to have also strengthened coordination, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to different operational situations.
KFOR emphasized that through continuous training, the mission increases its level of readiness and operational effectiveness, in line with its mandate to maintain a safe and secure environment for all citizens living in Kosovo.
