Another case of coronavirus confirmed (media)

Most media report that another case of coronavirus has been confirmed. A 46 year old from Janjeva in the municipality from Lipjan that flew back from Germany. Janjeva has now been isolated. The total number of confirmed cases has reached 21.

Health Minister: Infected persons in stable condition (RFE)

Kosovo's Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, said on Thursday that the persons infected with the coronavirus in Kosovo are in stable condition.

"The 13 persons that are hospitalised are in stable condition, except for one patient - the more elderly one - who is receiving oxygen therapy from time to time, but his condition is not serious," Vitia said.

Prishtina protests from its balconies (Prishtina Insight)

Residents in Prishtina protested from their homes on Thursday night, banging pots and pans from their windows and balconies to condemn Kosovo politicians for “causing drama and uncertainty” over the future of the country’s leadership during the coronavirus pandemic.

Kosovo citizens, currently on the sixth day of the country’s lockdown following the outbreak of coronavirus, protested from the comfort of their homes on Thursday evening, drumming pots and pans from their windows and balconies.

The protest was organised through a Facebook event created by Replike, an anonymous group of activists in Kosovo, who told Prishtina Insight that the protest was organised to express their dissatisfaction at political developments over recent days.

“The political elite does not have a shared understanding of how the country should deal with the virus and the measures that should be taken,” the organisers said. “All of them are using this pandemic to gain political points by showing the political and personal anger between them.”

Osmani and two other LDK MPs do not sign no confidence motion (RTK)

Arben Gashi, caucus of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) said Vjosa Osmani and two other MPs of this political party did not sign the motion of no confidence on Kurti’s government.

“Lumir Abdixhiku is not part of the parliamentary group. Vjosa Osmani together with two other MPs had a different opinion from the parliamentary group,” Gashi said.

“Vjosa is a dear colleague to us and our very good friend. There has been time that Osmani has different opinion on this matter and I respect it. Osmani is currently Assembly Speaker ,” Gashi said.

“Kurti has two problems: lifting the tariff and guaranteeing stabile governing. LDK has two problems with Kurti, if he would be proactive on this issue,” Gashi added.

LDK deputy leader: We can continue governance if Kurti removes tariff and returns Veliu (KTV)

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Deputy leader Imri Ahmeti said in an interview to KTV on Thursday evening that Prime Minister Albin Kurti has some more time left to reflect.

"I dont know what can happen but I think that Kurti has some room left to reflect and if he wants to stabilise the situation. The demands of the LDK are clear: remove the tariff and restore Veliu to his post. Then we can sit down and talk about possible governance," he said.

Avni Bytyci, spokesperson of the Democratic Part of Kosovo (PDK) said Kurti’s government has chosen the worst moment, when Kosovo people are facing COVID-19 pandemic, to cause political crisis.

“We consider this to be an act of irresponsibility and avoidance of responsibility first of all by Mr. Kurti as a Prime Minister, but also by other coalition parties as well. To us, this situation is unacceptable but understandable based on the circumstances that it happened, because we have seen that this government despite of being negotiated for 140 days, has had difficulties to function,” he said.

“We are observing the situation carefully and PDK will very soon come up with concrete position concerning the motion of no confidence on the government initiated by the partner of this coalition,” Bytyci said.

Limaj: NISMA will support no confidence motion (RTK)

Fatmir Limaj, leader of the Social-Democratic Initiative (NISMA) met on Thursday with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Isa Mustafa. After the meeting, Limaj stated that he has conveyed to Mustafa his political party will support the no confidence motion for Kurti’s government. He however added that it is not necessary for Kosovo to go for new elections at this time.

“This issue has to end as soon as possible, as the political decision has already been made. Therefore this remains only a technical matter at the Assembly,” Limaj said.

Haradinaj: I wont be part of any govt that talks about partition (T7)

AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj said in an interview to T7 on Thursday evening that he wont be part of any government that would discuss Kosovo's possible partition or border correction.

He said that in his meeting with LDK leader Isa Mustafa they agreed that the import tariff on Serbia should be used "for a contract for mutual recognition".

"We need a government of unity. Now is not the time for divisions," he added.

834 citizens request to return to Kosovo (media)

Kosovo’s Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Lumir Abdixhiku, informed that 834 Kosovo citizens have requested to return to Kosovo, while only on Friday, 130 of them will be coming from Germany.

“Health Ministry has transformed student’s center into a contamination center. Each returnee in Kosovo in an organized manner will be situated at this center for 14 days…All citizens will be transported with the help of the army and our soldiers,” Abdixhiku said.

However, Lul Raka, microbiologist involved in treatment of patients with COVID-19, appealed on Thursday evening on T7 to Kosovo migrants not to return to Kosovo unless they have an emergency. “Quarantine conditions there are much better than here,” he said.
