Jahjaga seeks recognition of Kosovo from the Bahamas (Telegrafi)
President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, met in New York with the Foreign Minister of the Bahamas, Frederick Mitchell, with whom she discussed processes important for Kosovo’s international consolidation and membership in international organisations. Jahjaga said that since declaration of independence in 2008, Kosovo has made a great deal of progress and has turned into a factor of stability in the region and strong promoter of good neighbourly relations. She said independence of Kosovo has been legitimized by the International Court of Justice and has already been recognised by 108 UN member states. President Jahjaga stressed that recognition of Kosovo’s independence by the Bahamas would contribute to continuation of Kosovo’s consolidation process, building of relations between the two countries and offer support for Kosovo’s membership in international organisations, particularly the UN. Foreign Affairs Minister of the Commonwealth of Bahamas said that his country is closely following the developments in the Balkan region and the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia on normalisation of relations.
