Urlike Lunacek Vice-President of the European Parliament and Austrian expert for Balkans, Vedran Dzhic, wrote in a joint article for the Austrian daily Standard, that Kosovo people suffer due to the local problems and due to the international community’s failure to fully recognize, which has also contributed to the current situation.

They consider that lack of visa liberalization is a reason for the exodus of Kosovo people during the recent months. “Courage for the speedy liberalization of visas, an efficient strategy for the EU enlargement, an offensive dialogue with the five remaining EU members which have not recognized Kosovo as well as a new intelligent strategy on emigration is required,” they wrote adding also the need for a “reset” of the up to date policy towards Kosovo.

They further wrote that Rona Nishliu could not represent Kosovo three years ago at the Eurosong. She was ranked the fifth representing Albania. Majlinda Kelmendi could not participate at Judo competition at Olympic games in London, while football representation can only participate at some friendly matches.

The situation is the same when the war against corruption and crime is concerned, because Kosovo cannot become member of Europol or Interpol, even seven years after the independence, because this independence is not recognized by five EU member countries.

They also criticized the fact that Kosovo is not a member of the United Nations, despite the fact of being recognized by 110 countries.

Lunacek and Dzihic also recalled the delays on the signing of the Stabilization Association Agreement. “The list of the obstacles to the independence of Kosovo is long,” they write requesting their removal in order to make the independence functional.
