Fajon announces ambitious visa liberalisation plan for Kosovo (RTK)
The first debate at the European Parliament on the proposal of the European Commission for granting visa liberalisation for Kosovo is expected to take place this Thursday. Even though the majority of European Parliament members support the view of lifting visa requirements for the people of Kosovo, the voting procedure could extend beyond summer. The newly-appointed European Parliament rapporteur for the visa liberalization for Kosovo, Tanja Fajon, said she has an ambitious visa liberalisation plan. She announced she will review closely the current situation as well as the overall mood within the EU and member states. Fajon recalled the conditions that the Kosovo side has to meet before being granted visa-free travel, namely ratification of the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro and concrete results in the fight against organised crime and corruption. Following the appointment to her new capacity, Fajon said that transparent and efficient cooperation as well as honest communication will be the basis for this final stage of the process.
