EULEX in Kosovo until 15 June 2016 (RTKlive)
The government of Kosovo has approved the draft law for ratification of the international agreement between Kosovo and the European Union, with regards to the extension of the mandate of the EU mission for the rule of law in Kosovo (EULEX), until 15 June 2018.
The government approved changes of the laws related to the EULEX’s extension of mandate. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa said that the government has reached agreement with the EU on the matter. “We have received last night the replying letter from the EU representative, Frederica Mogherini, therefore, we have proceeded once again with these two draft laws which are harmonized with the letter of the President and the EU,” Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said.
Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi presented the draft law for ratification of the international agreement between Kosovo and the EU. “The required means have already been reached through the letter of the President of Kosovo sent on 9 June of this year and Ms. Mogherini’s confirmation, yesterday. Therefore, using the previous tradition, we will proceed with these laws...This law of course will include extension of EULEX’s mandate until 15 June 2018, as foreseen in the agreement, as well as delegation of the authority for nomination of international judges and prosecutors and the judges of the Constitutional Court, in accordance with Article 20,” Kuçi said. He added that the international staff will be of course guaranteed immunity based on the Vienna convention.
Kuçi also proposed a draft law for the changes and fulfillment of the laws which are related to the mandate of EULEX.
