Still not clear if Kosovo and Spain will sit together in Sofia summit (RFE)
Both Spain and Kosovo will take part in the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia but the host of the event, the Bulgarian presidency of the EU, has not made it clear whether Madrid has agreed to Kosovo’s presentation as a country. The Bulgarian presidency confirmed Kosovo’s participation at the summit but did not comment on whether its state symbols will be used. “Kosovo’s participation will be in accordance to protocol requirements,” said Genoveva Chervenakova, spokesperson of the Bulgarian EU presidency. Earlier, Spain announced it would not take part in the Sofia summit if Kosovo is represented as a country while Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said he would not sit at the same table with President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci. Bulgarian presidency confirmed Spanish prime minister will be in Sofia. “Prime Minister of Spain will arrive to Bulgaria tomorrow,” Chervenakova said. Media in Spain have however reported that Rajoy plans to attend a dinner with EU officials ahead of the summit and leave the next day.
