Kosovars in Kumanovo (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial notes that Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Isa Mustafa have called on the FYROM authorities to conduct transparent and credible investigations into the Kumanovo clashes, “but first they [Jahjaga and Mustafa] should ask our own security mechanisms what they know about several Kosovars who were involved in the latest events there”. The editorial argues that before Skopje issues an official report on the clashes and the number of those killed and arrested, the Kosovo institutions must show they are responsible for the security in the country and for the borders with neighboring countries. “It is obvious that state agencies cannot control the movement of every individual, but in this case, the movements of people from Kosovo included in the Kumanovo clashes, should have attracted the attention of Kosovo’s intelligence service and other security mechanisms. The institutional indifference leaves much room for improvement and this should be addressed by the highest political levels, because we cannot allow Kosovo to become an exporter of criminal elements”.
