Thaci either president or prime minister (Bota Sot)
According to the writer of this opinion piece, Kushtrim Gashi, if the current governing coalition does not manage to implement the agreement between the two major parties for Hashim Thaci to become the president of Kosovo, then this coalition would conclude by the end of 2016, and early elections would proceed. Kosovo would be saved from early elections only if some of the deputies of the Democratic League of Kosovo have already stated that they would not vote Thaci for the president, change their minds.
Gashi says that the flow of further events remains to be seen, however, 2016 is the year of Hashim Thaci’s election, be it as a president or the prime minister of Kosovo. He is also convinced that Thaci would win the elections and would return to the position of the prime minister even stronger than before. Recent surveys also show that PDK continues to be the most supported political party and it held this position during the entire decade. Considering the circumstances, everything is moving in Thaci’s favor, therefore there is no question if he is going to become the president, the question is what position will he choose.
Gashi further writes that it is obvious why the other parties do not like Thaci, however so far no other leader in Kosovo, has shown the capability of managing political situations as he did.
