The streets, elections, consensus (Koha Ditore)
Publicist Veton Surroi argues in an opinion piece that in the coming days, “we will be hearing increasing calls for the fall of the current government and the end of this governance. The opposition, including civil society, shoulder a burden that is bigger than focusing only on the end of this government. They need to provide answers whether they want the end of this governance too, and if so, what measures they will take in the four areas [a functioning state, economic development, social well-being, and sovereignty]. Only in doing so, by creating a common denominator for societal action, can they turn into a transforming power that Kosovo needs. The apathy of this country, which awakens only when it is losing (the Association of Serb municipalities, Demarcation and the death of political activist Astrit Dehari) can end if it understands that we are no longer living in a normal context in which any mistakes by Kosovars would be corrected somehow by the United States of America, Great Britain or other friends. We are living in a context where the democratic change of governance must come from the Kosovars. And if it happens it will have the support of European integration forces, the now-limited forces of liberal democracy in the world”.
