Merkel’s messages for Kosovo (politiko.net/ Koha)

The meeting between the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa in Berlin, is over. Merkel and Mustafa discussed the bilateral relations, situation in Kosovo, Kosovo’s relations with the EU as well as the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

The German Chancellor gave two very clear messages to the Kosovo delegation: support for the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade and establishment of the special court. “The Chancellor supported us on the dialogue and establishment of the special court,” said Mustafa. “We are interested to have more economic support from Germany,” added Mustafa at a joint press conference.

Asked whether normalization of the relations between Pristina and Belgrade would be a condition for Serbia’s EU integration, Chancellor Merkel said; “Of course, we have a major interest to reach a fair agreement, this is valid for both parties. Both parties should make compromises, not only Kosovo but Serbia as well. I encourage both parties, because progress in the European road can be achieved only if there is progress on the dialogue. This is valid for both Serbia and Kosovo,” said Mekel.
