Janjic: Good for Serbia that negotiations start as soon as possible (Blic)
Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina must end with a compromise, but it is difficult to say when, said political analyst Dusan Janjic and pointed out that for it would be ideal for Serbia that it starts as soon as possible, would ideally it would be as before, and for Pristina would be difficult whenever it that happens.
The current impasse in the negotiations Janjic interpreted as a result of something that is beyond the negotiating table, and concerns primarily the weakness of the Kosovo authorities, indecision of Deputy Prime Minister and PDK leader Hashim Thaci to deal with his former associates, but also dissatisfaction with the growing anti-European opposition in Kosovo. Therefore it was not easy for the Serbian side to make concessions, said Janjic.
"So, in this stalemate we see that the Brussels dialogue, and if we may have forgotten, is still the space for weighing powers of Russia, EU and America," said Janjic.
He adds that no one should be surprised that Germany was "awakened" and "jumped", he said, and European Commissioner Federica Mogherini, realizing that nothing would be out of what she proclaimed at the beginning of her mandate.
Germany, according to him, invested a lot in this dialogue and that was why they went for the weakest point this time - the Kosovo government.
"They said to Hashim Thaci, in a serious tone, or he will be working a government job for which he was elected, or it will likely be reconstructed," Janjic said, adding that he believes that this will not happen and that the negotiators will go back to the table.
It is clear, he says, that this phase of dialogue must end in a compromise.
However, it is difficult to say when this will happen.
All the more because Thaci and Mustafa are under great pressure from the Kosovo opposition, who alone without the support of the EU, can hardly resist.
