Elections in Pristina will postpone A/CSM formation till summer (Vecernje Novosti)
If the attempt to elect a new president for Kosovo fails, parliamentary elections will be automatically scheduled, and this will prolong the deadlock of the formation of the Association / Community of Serb Municipalities (A/CSM), to least until the summer. Even if Hashim Thaci were to gain the support required for his election as President, there is a possibility that he will soon dissolve the Assembly, as an answer to the political instability in Kosovo. And this would further delay the establishment of the A/CSM for several months.
According to Slobodan Petrovic, Kosovo Deputy Assembly Speaker, there is a chance that immediately after Thaci’s election for the president, parliamentary elections will be held. On a potential candidate for president of Kosovo from the Serbian community, Petrovic said that it would be good if the Serbian List presented someone, adding that it is questionable whether 30 MP signatures can be collected.
The announced elections in the Republic of Serbia will also slow down the dynamic of the Brussels talks. Even if Pristina and Belgrade coordinated the A/CSM statute at a technical level, it cannot be approved by Belgrade until the new government is formed, which will be in the second half of May at the earliest.
