Peoples Party: Negotiation process with EU slow (FoNet, Danas)
Peoples Party, headed by Vuk Jeremic, said the negotiation process with the EU is rather slow, despite concessions made in negotiations with Kosovo, Serbian media reported.
The European integrations are slow because of corruption and catastrophic situation in the judiciary, which has been confirmed by the statements of the highest EU officials on Monday, the party further said. It added, the best example of a slow pace is a fact that only two chapters were opened instead of five as planned.
This was also confirmed with the criticism from the EU, clearly pointing out that the opening of new chapters cannot be done without a tangible focus on the rule of law, while Serbia needs to advance the independence of the judiciary, freedom of expression, media, fight against corruption and organized crime, including money laundering.
The People’s Party called for responsibility of the Serbian Government and the Justice Minister, Nela Kuburovic as 2017 is wasted and not a single step ahead was made in regard to the chapters 23 and 24 related to the rule of law, Serbian media reported.
