Minister claims: Europol started co-operating with Kosovo (B92, Beta)
Kosovo Interior Minister Flamur Sefaj received an official announcement that Europol decided to start co-operation with Kosovo, the ministry announced, reports B92 today.
Sefaj met with Deputy Director of the EU Security Council Olivier Onidi, who told him that at the meeting of the Steering Committee, Europol decided that Kosovo "should be on the list of priorities" of the member states of that organization, and that Europol will conclude a working agreement with Kosovo, B92 reports.
There is, however, no information as to when this agreement will be concluded.
At the meeting, attended by the Head of the EU Office in Pristina, Natalia Apostolova and the Director General of the Kosovo Police, Shpend Maxhuni, there was also a discussion on the implementation of a strategy to combat "all forms of terrorism and violent extremism".
The results of the Kosovo Police in "preventing and fighting violent extremism leading to terrorism" have been presented", it was added.
Kosovo is actively lobbying for membership in Interpol and Europol for almost three years. Kosovo cooperates with these organizations through UNMIK, EU and EULEX representatives, B92 reports.
