Barbados gets Serbia's protest note over "astonishing act" (B92, Beta, Tanjug)

The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a protest note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados.

The note states that Belgrade received the news of the decision of Barbados to recognize Kosovo "with astonishment."

"Such an unreasonable and unexpected act comes at a time when many countries around the world, some of which close neighbors of Barbados, are questioning and withdrawing decisions to recognize the so-called the state of Kosovo. It will certainly not contribute to reaching a final solution acceptable to both sides on the issue of Kosovo's status, which, according to assessments even of those countries that were among the first to recognize Kosovo's independence, is still to take place," the note said.

Serbia, it added, found it particularly insulting that the decision to recognize Kosovo was announced on its Statehood Day.

"Such a decision, made by a state that had Belgrade's selfless support on its road to decolonization, with which Serbia established diplomatic relations back in 1977, is considered to be a short-sighted decision made by the current authorities, contrary to the principles of international law and the positions expressed in recent bilateral contacts between the representatives of the two governments, and its motives can only be guessed at," the protest note concluded.
