Oliver Ivanovic never received direct threats, late politician's wife says (N1, Beta, Politika)

Kosovo Serb opposition leader Oliver Ivanovic never received a direct threat, nor he thought he was in jeopardy, his wife Milena Popovic-Ivanovic said for Serbian media a year after this politician was murdered in front of his party’s office in North Mitrovica last year.

Speaking for Belgrade daily newspaper Politika, Ivanovic denied allegations of her late husband delivering the names of people threatening his safety to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

“They had discussed all topics, but Oliver had never felt he was not safe. Oliver had spoken at the time of election campaign that the conditions in which it was taking place were not good. He had worked on making the election in Kosovo democratic and had spoken of the security situation in that context,” she said.

The late politician’s wife said she would not attend any gathering on the occasion of the anniversary of Ivanovic’s murder and will not organise a political rally.

Oliver Ivanovic was shot dead in front of his party offices in North Mitrovica in mid-January 2018. The investigation into Ivanovic’s death is still ongoing.
