Stamatovic: Patriarch should be in Pec, not in Belgrade’s downtown (B92)
Member of Prosperous Serbia (ZS) and the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SZS) Milan Stamatovic, commenting on Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej’s statement that Serbia needs unity and not quarrels, said that Serbian Patriarch should have been in Pec, and not in “Belgrade’s downtown,” B92 reports.
He added the seat of the Serbian Patriarch should be “there where it is hardest (to live) for the Serbian people” and it is “in Pec Patriarchate.”
Commenting on the Patriarch’s assessment about civic protests, taking place in Belgrade, Stamatovic said that Patriarch took the side twice, by praising the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Stamatovic recommended to the highest Serbian Orthodox Church bodies, that in case of change in the format of the dialogue, in addition to Russia and China, consider involvement of Holly Seat in these talks, since Vatican does not recognize Kosovo, and as one of the most powerful centres of Christianity, is interested into status of the Christian population, holly shrines and cultural heritage of Serbian Orthodox Church as well as properties of all religious communities in the Serbian southern province.
