KFOR Commander: We do not train staff and do not equip KSF (Kontakt plus radio, RTK2, Blic)
Major-General Lorenzo D'Addario said that KFOR was ready for any scenario when it comes to the final agreement between Pristina and Belgrade and assessed the security situation in Kosovo as satisfactory.
KFOR Commander Lorenzo D’Addario, in a RTK2 show, said that it was important that the solution of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina satisfies both parties.
He estimated security in Kosovo as generally good, but, as he said, he was particularly worried about the perception that did not help the harsh statements or provocations.
On the situation in northern Kosovo, where Oliver Ivanovic was killed a little over a year ago, D’Addario replied that the north was "a real area which was probably more hostage in this situation".
He also said that the decision to transform the Kosovo Security Forces into the Kosovo Army was made in a manner and at a time that NATO would want to be different.
"At this moment, our nations in the North Atlantic Council are considering what NATO's relationship with the KSF will be," he said, and added that KFOR was responsible for the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 in this area, and that it will continue to be his mission.
"We work with KSF, because it is important that we all know where our place is, but we, KFOR, do not train staff and do not equip KSF," he stressed.
Asked does he expects KSF to respect the agreement that without the permission of KFOR, it cannot be in northern Kosovo, D’Addario said he expects that to last, "but in any case, I can assure you that we will always provide a safe environment in Kosovo."
