Serbs from Gorazdevac met EU representatives over hazardous waste disposal (Vecernje Novosti)
KFOR’s statement on hazardous waste disposal in several locations in Kosovo and that it is kept under inadequate conditions has confirmed our doubts that barrels transported by the trucks to the former Footwear and Leather Factory contain hazardous chemicals and that our protest was justified, inhabitants of Gorazdevac village said, Vecernje Novosti reported.
Luckily, this time representatives of the international community took our protest seriously, they added.
Milos Dimitrijevic from Gorazdevac village said his request to remove the hazardous waste from the area of the municipality was supported by Gazmend Muhaxherri, mayor of Pec, adding he is also aware that chemicals are dangerous for the Albanians living in the neighboring villages.
He recalled that over the last month more than 150 barrels were brought and stationed in the factory near by the church in the village.
“We had a meeting with EU representatives from Pristina, who seriously took our request for removing hazardous waste (…),” Dimitrijevic said, adding inhabitants will insist on removing the waste.
